AI is no longer just a thing of the future. It is increasingly being used as a tool in policy, administration and public services. Governments use algorithms and data models to inform policy decisions, speed up processes, and provide support. Examples include predictive analyses for energy demand and climate policy, risk models in healthcare and social services, adaptive learning systems in education, and the automatic detection of security threats. AI thinks alongside us, guides us, and even makes decisions for us. This fundamentally changes the way we safeguard public values. Decisions that used to be made only by humans are increasingly being prepared for or influenced by AI systems. These are systems that we do not always understand. The central question is no longer whether we use AI, but how we do so: Transparently, verifiably and responsibly. We must consider the values that we as a society (in Brabant) want to uphold.

What should we do with AI in Brabant?

On 4 December, during The Great Brabant AI Show, we will search for answers together. During this inspiring theatre event, BrabantKennis will present its research project, 'Deciding without Understanding'. We will present high-profile future scenarios and launch the Brabant AItiquette, a guide full of ethical and practical recommendations for the future. We will also share the results of the first AI survey among Brabants residents and administrators, and author Daphne Huisden will present her short story ORAKEL, which was written especially for this exploration.
