Programme

You will find the programme for the event below.

  • 12:00–13:00 Lunch and networking

Start the day with a networking lunch, then visit the information stands and poster sessions showcasing current research. Tilburg University's labs in MindLabs will be open for viewing.

  • 13:00–14:00: Opening

At 13:00, Rector Magnificus Wim van de Donk will open the programme with a reflection on the role of digitisation within Tilburg University and the social significance of the Digital Sciences for Society programme.

This will be followed by two inspiring keynote speeches. Dr Roos Slegers will consider artificial intelligence from a philosophical perspective, examining how technology responds to our deepest human desires, such as the need for recognition and connection. Dr Bart Wernaart, a lecturer at Fontys, will discuss the concept of 'moral design' and demonstrate how social values can be translated into tangible design principles, allowing for citizen involvement. This follows on from the podcast episode in which the keynote speakers answered questions from students. This episode can be viewed here. A shortened version can be found here.

This will be followed by an interactive panel discussion led by Prof. Pieter Spronck, in which experts from academia and industry will explore what ethical AI could look like in practice.

  • 14:10 – 15:10 Breakout sessions, round 1

During the first breakout session, you can choose from four themes: 'The contribution of technology to broad prosperity', 'Setting up meaningful research collaborations', 'The social impact of AI' and 'A critical look at digitisation and personalisation'.

  • 15:20 – 16:20: Breakout sessions, round 2

The second breakout session partly repeats these sessions, but also offers an in-depth workshop on building strategic research agendas. This allows you to choose the option that best suits your interests or field of expertise.

  • 16:20 – 17:30: Closing drinks

We will end the day with a wrap-up and networking drinks from 16:20. This is an opportunity to reflect on the day together, make new connections or explore potential collaborations.
