Listening in the age of AI

Media

AI is now integrated into many of our daily services and environments, from information provision to smart homes and cities. However, it is important to consider how citizens experience these developments and what they think of AI. In this evolving landscape, journalism plays a pivotal role in interpreting these changes, keeping citizens informed, and raising questions about the impact of AI on society. How can journalism best fulfil this role?

To mark International Privacy Day on 28 January 2026, Fontys Journalism will be discussing the topic of 'Listening in the Age of AI'. How can we better identify citizens' concerns, and what role do journalists play? This event will bring together various stakeholders who play a role in hearing about experiences, opportunities and concerns in an increasingly digitised society.

Please note: this event is in dutch!

The event will provide you with the necessary methods, knowledge, tools and contacts. You will discover your AI type and learn why different perspectives on AI are important. You will learn how to effectively invite citizens to share their AI experiences, how to tell those stories in an accessible way and how to ensure that problems are passed on to the relevant authorities. You will also have the opportunity to meet ombudsmen and regulators to discuss the social impact of AI and how to address it. The role of technology in the city will also be examined in more detail.
