12 November 2020

MindLabs has given the green light for five innovation projects that are part of the Regio Deal 'Makes & Moves Midden- en West-Brabant'. The municipality of Tilburg gave its approval for these projects this week. The core of the projects is the development of breakthroughs with interactive technologies such as Serious Gaming, Virtual Reality and Avatars.

COOPERATION
For the five new projects, MindLabs has brought together a fine consortium. In addition to the three knowledge institutions, 13 companies and other organizations are investing to develop new applications of these technologies. MindLabs is receiving €2.5 million from the Regio Deal. With their efforts, the 16 cooperation partners add a total value of over €6 million, spread over three to four years.

The consortium includes a number of existing MindLabs partners such as Interpolis, WPG/Zwijsen, the Tilburg startup CastLab, the SPACEBUZZ Foundation and the Municipality of Tilburg. New parties that will participate in the projects are the Port of Rotterdam, the Royal Air Force, Actemium, Brightcape, Coolminds, Fectar and TimeAware.

They are addressing questions such as: Can you train and improve complex decision-making in logistics planning with serious gaming? What is the learning effect of training pilots with VR flights? How do you design VR training in such a way that safety instructions in the maintenance sector are adhered to as closely as possible? How can we use avatars and self-regulated learning modules to make learning more engaging?

A great moment for MindLabs. Professor Max Louwerse of Tilburg University: "In these projects, everything we want seems to come together. They allow us to share our scientific research even better with the Brabant regions, we involve even more business partners in our network, we develop MindLabs' four core technologies and it can be a nice stimulus for the emergence of startups that go to market with new applications."

REGIONAL IMPACT
Through the Regio Deal, the regions of Central and West Brabant, together with the state, are driving innovation in the regional economy and labor market. The parties want to see a joining of forces in the field of Artificial Intelligence between knowledge institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises. Companies, startups and other organizations from the regions know how to find Mindlabs more and more.

MindLabs director Loet Visschers: "MindLabs is an open innovation network. This means that the results of our projects and partners are put in the spotlight to inspire others to discover new technological possibilities with us. Companies and startups that are interested, and want to invest in it themselves, are warmly invited to come and meet us."
