Regio deal boosts innovation in the Spoorzone

03 June 2026

How do you create a place where technology becomes not only smarter, but also more human? And where students, researchers, businesses and civil society organisations can experiment together with the innovations of tomorrow? In a recent article by Midpoint Brabant, director Petra van Dijk explains how the Midden-Brabant Regional Deal is contributing to the growth of the innovation ecosystem in Tilburg’s Spoorzone.

In the interview, Petra outlines how MindLabs is evolving into a vibrant hub for talent, research and innovation. From students working in multidisciplinary teams on real-world social issues, to businesses and public sector partners experimenting together with technologies such as AI, immersive experiences and virtual humans: at MindLabs, it’s all about learning, testing and making an impact together.

A fine example of this is the Futures Lab, where vocational, higher vocational and university students collaborate on concrete real-world challenges. Not from a textbook, but right at the heart of society, together with companies, healthcare organisations, educational institutions and government bodies.

Petra also explains how MindLabs aims to bring technology closer to people. Through initiatives such as the Open Podium, visitors, students, researchers and professionals are invited to reflect together on questions that are becoming increasingly relevant: how is AI changing our daily lives? How do we ensure that technology remains inclusive and responsible? And what does it mean when digital humans become increasingly realistic?

The common thread running through the story: innovation does not arise in isolation. Thanks to the Midden-Brabant Regional Deal, the ecosystem surrounding MindLabs is being given extra space to grow. A place where experimentation, collaboration and social impact come together in the heart of Tilburg’s Spoorzone.
