Health Lab – Innovation in healthcare through collaboration

The Health Lab brings together healthcare, technology and education to develop innovative solutions that make a real difference to patients and healthcare professionals. This lab comprises an ongoing programme featuring a variety of projects and durations.

Background

The healthcare sector faces major challenges: staff shortages, high administrative burdens, rising costs and increasingly complex treatments all call for smart solutions. At Health Lab, we develop and test technologies that tackle these healthcare challenges and promote a healthier lifestyle.

What is the Health Lab?

The Health Lab is a partnership in which the education sector, the healthcare sector and the business community work together to drive innovation in healthcare. In many cases, knowledge derived from research or education remains confined to prototypes or concepts, without ever actually reaching patients. The Health Lab aims to bridge this gap.

By connecting healthcare organisations (with specific questions), knowledge institutions (with research and expertise) and businesses (with development capacity and revenue models), an ecosystem is created in which ideas can be developed more quickly into usable solutions. Students, such as those from the Futures Lab, play an important role in this by working on specific issues within projects.

Projects within the Health Lab are often funded through regional, national or European grants and focus on current challenges in healthcare, such as care for the elderly, monitoring and technological support. The ultimate goal is that innovations are not only conceived, but also actually applied in practice.

stakeholders

The Health Lab is a partnership between:

  • Research institutions: including Tilburg University
  • Healthcare organisations: including Thebe, Mijzo, Amaliazorg (with a focus on elderly care and dementia)
  • Companies: technology and healthcare innovation companies such as Momo Medical
  • Students and labs: including via Future Lab / Tilburg University

Relevance and application

The Health Lab is relevant to the healthcare sector because it develops solutions that contribute to better and more efficient care for patients and clients, for example within elderly care and in relation to complex care needs such as dementia. In addition, it acts as a link between education, industry and practice, enabling students, researchers and companies to collaborate on real-world challenges.

The results of the Health Lab are widely applicable: in healthcare organisations as practical solutions, in the business sector as a basis for product development, and in policy and education as input for further innovation. In this way, the Health Lab strengthens not only healthcare but also the regional innovation ecosystem.
