1 minute with Erik Kamps from Crossyn

07 June 2023 Meet the family

MindLabs is not only an association with dreams and ambitions, we are also a collaboration of many different parties.  One big family, with members and partners we are all proud of. In the section 'Meet the family; 1 minute with...' everyone takes turns introducing themselves to you. Very briefly, because the family is big.  What do they do with their company and why do they do what they do? You can read it here. In this edition: Erik Kamps, CEO of Crossyn.

Erik, to get right to the point: what is Crossyn's core business?
Crossyn is a platform that collects high-frequency data and then analyzes and enriches that data for smart fleet management. We focus primarily on three things. First, on driving behavior analytics for mainly hard-to-insure fleets, such as fleets for last-mile delivery (delivery services). We also have a system that performs CO2 calculations and provides insight into the improvement potential per trip. This for both business and private trips, and for traditional motor vehicles as well as electric variants. And we focus on complex charging plazas; places with multiple charging points on the same grid connection. After all, there is simply not enough grid capacity to power every electric vehicle at the same time. We developed a solution that uses data from the vehicle to optimally control the various charging processes.

What is your dot on the horizon?
We focus on traffic safety, want to make people more aware of CO2 emissions and try to make the transition to electric driving more effective, pleasant and safe. With the help of our systems, insurers can link premium benefits to traffic safety or CO2 reduction and thus encourage users to change their driving style. But we also collect data to help fleet owners make the transition to electric driving. After all, as a fleet manager, you can't just 'push' everyone into an electric vehicle. Some people simply drive too much or are unable to charge sufficiently or not at all within urban areas, to name a few. Based on our data, we make recommendations so that electric driving does not frustrate those in the vehicles. That eases the process.

Out of ambition? Idealism? Or passion?
In part out of idealism. After all, we are fully committed to less CO2 and safer driving. But we also saw a gap in the market that no one had jumped into yet. We find it particularly important that we provide services that really benefit the driver. For that reason, we want to eventually make our data open. The Department of Public Works will then pay us for our data on potholes in the road, for example, and the money we earn from that will then mainly flow to the users of our solutions. That way, participation becomes interesting for everyone.

In what way are you associated with MindLabs?
We entered into a partnership with MindLabs as a scale-up.

And how long have you been in the family by now?
Only just. We had been following MindLabs for a while and wanted to be part of the family. In mid-April 2023, we signed for the partnership.

In that collaboration, what is the holy grail as far as you are concerned?
That is cooperation between educational institutions and business. Without that connection, ideas - especially in a bizarrely fast-paced world like ours - are obsolete before you even implement them. My generation simply has a different way of developing. One that takes too long. Without the short lines with other parties and contact with young people, I'm just running behind the times....

And what does it bring you in the meantime?
Through MindLabs, I can talk to young people at any time. I also hope to get some help with my communication to the outside world through MindLabs. The first contacts have already been made for that, by the way. And I suspect that I will get a lot of new ideas just by walking around the MindLabs building.
